Description
This is a 7 1/2 inch long mains tester, also known as a test pencil or voltage tester. It features a clear plastic handle, a metal tip at the end, and a metal contact clip on the side. Inside the handle, near the tip, there is a small neon indicator light and a resistor. This tool is used to detect the presence of voltage in electrical circuits, typically within the range of 100-250V AC. To use it, the metal tip is touched to the circuit being tested, and the user's finger must be in contact with the metal clip. If voltage is present and within the tester's range, the neon light inside the handle will illuminate, indicating a live circuit.
